GIOBAGNARA CURATED BY NICK VINSON
For Fuorisalone 2025, I curated the Giobagnara collections together with art and design pieces from Giorgio Bagnara’s personal collection.
At Via della Spiga 33, on the first floor, spread over 220 square metres, in a space designed by Belgian architect Glenn Sestig, Giobaganara furniture pieces by Stéphane Parmentier, Francesco Balzano and Glenn Sestig have been developed in special colours and finishes, placed with design objects from the Giobagnara collection all hand picked by me and shown together with art and design pieces Vinson selected from Giorgio Bagnara’s personal collection. In the case of Giobagnara I found everything he needed for the 13 sets in one place. This included works by some of the great masters of 20th-century Italian art, including paintings by Agostino Bonalumi, Mario Schifano & Turi Simeti, sculpture and ceramics by Pablo Atchougarry, sculptures by Igor Mitoraj, César Baldaccini & Robert Lienhard and works in aluminium by Bernard Aubertin and Salvatore Messina.
And, sitting side by side Giobagnara’s emblematic photo frames, trays, boxes, book ends, containers, lighting, dishes and games crafted from wood, stone, bronze and the Genoa-based maison’s signature material; leather are important examples of 20th century design by Gabriella Crespi, Fulvio Bianconi, Alessio Tasca, Gae Aulenti, Pierre Cardin, Tapio Wirkkala, Paolo Venini, GioPonti, Bruno Gambone and Lino Sabatini.
When I saw Giorgio’s collection of 20th century design pieces collected over many years it underlined the culture of quality and passion for excellence in design that’s the foundation of Giobagnara, which to me is the essence of made in Italy. It was also thrilling to have the opportunity to place Giobagnara furniture with artworks by many of my favourite Italian artists, many of who’s works I have been lucky enough to loan from their estates and galleries for my Wallpaper* shoots as well as most recently for the furnishing of the Italian Embassy in London that I just completed.
